Vector Physics and its Classification

Vector Physics and its Classification: In the physical world, anything that can be measured, something that can be expressed in terms of numbers, is defined as a quantity.

Vector Physics and its Classification

Quantities that cannot be expressed entirely by value alone, require both value and direction for the full expression of the quantities, and change in quantity only in value or only in direction or both, are called vector or right quantities. Movements, velocity, acceleration, weight, force, intensity, etc. are some examples of vectors. The amount of vector can be one-dimensional, two-dimensional or three-dimensional.

Different types of vectors can be classified based on differences in position and quality, and on the differences or similarities between them.

Zero Vector:

when a vector is added to its opposite vector, it gives zero vector as the final result. Zero vector is also called the null vector. Zero vector has a magnitude of “0”. The direction of a zero vector is indeterminate.

Unit Vector:

while a vector is divided by its own magnitude, it is called the unit vector. The magnitude of a unit vector is one. Let’s say, A is a vector. The magnitude of A is |A|. An unit vector a=A/|A| The coordinate system has unit vectors along the X, Y, Z axes. These are, i, j, k, respectively.

Vector Physics and its Classification Position Vector:

The position vector is also known as the radius vector. Position vector indicates a points exact location with respect to the origin. The initial point of the radius vector or position vector is stabled in origin. Let’s say the origin is at point O. there is a point in the three-dimensional Cartesian system, P. OP will be the radius or position vector for P.

Co-initial Vector:

If more than one vectors have got the same initial point or starting point, they are co- initial vectors to each other. All position vectors are started from the origin O. So, they are Co-Initial to each other.

Like and Unlike Vectors.:

If same kind of vectors are parallel to each other, they are called like vectors. Its not mandatory that the magnitudes of the vectors should be same. But they should be parallel to each other. If not, they are called unlike vectors.

Co-planar Vector.:

If three or more than three vectors lie in one plane, they are called co- planner vector. They can be parallel to the plane too.

Co-linear Vector.:

Co-liner vectors are also called the parallel vectors. They lie along the parallel lines

Equal Vector.:

If two or ore than two vectors are similar kind and they got same magnitude and they are co-liner or parallel to each other, then they are called equal vector.

Displacement Vector:

If a point A is moved to another point “B”, a displacement vector AB Is created

Negative of a Vector:

Two vectors with same magnitude but different in sign is called negative of a vector. These vectors are opposite to each other and provides a resultant as null or zero vector.
